Seasonal Allergies & Natural Supplements

Updated: Oct 6

Our blog today will focus on a homeopathic supplement we have in our office that combats nasal and sinus congestion due to the common cold and seasonal allergies with a more natural approach and no drowsiness. The supplement is called 'Phytofed-DF'. The main uses of the supplement include: temporary relief of mild sinus, nose, and upper respiratory inflammation/irritation, especially due to allergies.

Here is a list of the main ingredients and their purpose:

Euphrasia Officinalis (Eyebright Extract): Relieves nasal, sinus, throat, upper respiratory inflammation with discharge

Urtica Dioica (Nettle Leaf Extract): Treats mild rhinitis (runny nose) due to allergies. Studies have shown that nettle can potentially act as an antihistamine, reducing the amount of histamine produced by the body*

Hydrastis Canadensis (Golden Seal Extract): Mild astringent/anti-inflammatory agent for nose, sinuses, mild post-nasal drip

Vitis Vinifera (Grape Seed Extract): Supportive antioxidant, slight expectorant. Shown to help with expectoration of mucus buildup that can be seen with allergy, cold, and flu symptoms

Echinacea Purpurea (Echinacea Extract): Adjunctively supports immune system in recurring infections, post-nasal catarrh (inflammation of mucous membranes) Purple coneflower has been shown to increase the number of white blood cells in the bloodstream, helping to prevent the initial infection

Allergy Alert: Although rare, allergic reaction to Nettles (Urtica dioica) can include: skin reactions, sweating, and digestive complaints. Persons with auto-immune illness or progressive illness (HIV, TB, MS, for example) should avoid regular Echinacea use. Do not use if you are sensitive to any of these ingredients. Do not use if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
